Emmons, MN (KROC-AM News) - A 12-year-old girl was airlifted to St. Marys Hospital Friday night following an all-terrain vehicle crash in Freeborn County.

A news release issued Saturday by Freeborn County Sheriff's Sergeant Tim Bennett says the girl was driving the four-wheeler and suffered life-threatening injuries. The crash was reported about 7:15 PM along a rural road just outside Emmons, a small town along the Minnesota-Iowa border about 10 miles southwest of Albert Lea.

Sergeant Bennett says the first deputy to arrive at the scene found first responders administering CPR to the child. A nearby resident indicated he found the girl unresponsive in the ditch near the ATV and began providing first aid until the first responders took over. They indicated she had a pulse, but remained unresponsive.

The news release says two other girls, ages 8 and 13, were riding on the four-wheeler when it rolled into the ditch while the 12-year-old driver attempted to make a turn. They suffered minor injuries and were able to walk to a nearby residence to summon help. None of the girls involved in the incident were wearing a helmet.
