A Pay-by-the Hour Coffee Shop Is a Hit Out East – But Would it Work in Rochester?
This is not your typical coffee shop.
It's already a big thing in Europe and now it's made its way to the United States.
A place called Williamsburg’s Glasshour just opened in Brooklyn, New York, and it's being hailed as the first of its kind in America.
The concept: A cafe that charges by the hour for unlimited coffee and snacks.
STEP 1: You pay $6 for one hour. That gets you unlimited coffee and snacks, like granola bars.
STEP 2: After the first hour, you pay an additional 10 cents per minute, up to a maximum amount of $24. So, you'll end up paying the maximum once you hit the four-hour mark. Everything is "on the house" after that point.
The place also has board games, as well as a PlayStation 4. That is, if you just want to come in and play — instead of work — while you drink! They even hashtag many of their tweets with "#anticafe."
The owner says the idea puts an emphasis on "communication over consumption”.
So what do you think? Could Rochester put up with a coffee joint like this? Would you go?
