It's the end of an era with 'Late Night' television, as David Letterman is stepping down after 33 years...He has hosted the CBS show since 1993 and hosted "Late Night" on NBC from 1982 to 1993.  He announced his retirement in April 2014.

Now, I'll be the first to admit that I haven't watched Letterman as much these past couple years.  My taste for 'Late Night' has evolved to the Jimmy Fallon's and Jimmy Kimmels' of the world, with the occasional check-in with Conan, as he was my favorite when I was in high school.

But I'll never forget those summer's when I'd rush home after the neighborhood pool would close so I could have a bowl of ice cream, and eagerly wait for Letterman to come on with his latest "Top Ten List".  I was only 13 or 14, so I didn't always get a lot of the jokes on the lists, but I still thought it was SO cool he had a new one every night!

Plus his musical guests were always the best.  From Sir Paul McCartney to Pearl Jam to Lady Gaga, it seemed every one would step up their game to perform in the old Ed Sullivan Theater.

The Foo Fighters will be Letterman's final musical guest tonight.

“What am I going to do with myself every day? I haven’t had to answer that question for 33 years.” said Paul Shaffer, who has been David Letterman's bandleader and sidekick throughout the "Late Show with David Letterman."

It's a good question.  One I'm sure many viewers will be asking themselves once the new regime of Stephen Colbert takes over in September.

Here are a couple of my favorite Letterman performances below.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I did when I first saw them.
