The Fourth of July festivities in Rochester get underway this morning with the annual Jaycee’s Kiddie parade.

Children, accompanied by an adult, are invited to participate in the patriotic procession in downtown Rochester by walking or riding riding bikes, scooters, wagons and even baby strollers. Registration begins at 9 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, while the parade begins at 10 o’clock and will run along 4th avenue and 7th street southwest to the Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial.

The Rochester-based Skidox Water Ski Team will perform a special Fourth of July show on Lake Zumbro this afternoon. The performance will begin at 1 p.m. at Fisherman’s Inn.

The main event for the local Independence Day celebration will take place at Silver Lake Park tonight. It begins at 8:30 with a free performance of patriotic music by the Rochester Concert Band at the soccer field will continue until the start of the annual fireworks show above Silver Lake around 10 p.m.
