"It's so dang HOT.... Milk was a bad choice!"

Anybody see Anchorman?  Anyone?  Bueller?  OK, never mind.

Anyways: One of the best things I love about living in Minnesota is we get all four seasons.  But this weekend, we might as well be living in a Africa because it's hot out there!

There’s a heat advisory for a chunk of Minnesota, an air pollution advisory for even more of the state, and there's a chance that some evening storms could cool things off BUT they could bring hail and some damaging winds.  Fun right?

Well I'm here to toss around some ideas to stay cool during the dog days of summer here in the land of 10,000 lakes:

    Find a Pool and Swim!

This one's a no-brainer!  It's that time of year where you round up all your friends and find a pool, or call up someone you know with a pool and make new ones!  Here's some good news: The city of Rochester plans to open its Soldier Field swimming pool tomorrow (Saturday) at noon and The Silver Lake pool is scheduled to open Monday!  Just make sure to apply some sun screen.

    Eating Ice Cream

Eating ice cream is something you can do all year-round, but there's nothing better than grabbing an ice cold ice cream cone with a buddy on a hot summer day and racing to lick up every savory drop before it all melts.

    Have a Squirt Gun Fight!

I'm almost 35-years old, but if you challenged me to a squirt gun fight this weekend I would not back down.  Squirt guns have only improved since I was a kid, so I can only imagine the fire-power those things have now-a-days... I'm giddy just thinking about it!

    Turn on the Sprinklers!

If you're not into water-fights with the squirt guns, then at least turn on the sprinkler and splash around in the water that way to stay cool.  If you've got an old slip-n-slide and a hill, you could set up a sick obstacle course... just sayin'

    Go to a Movie

Looking for ways to stay indoors and out of the sun indefinitely?  This is as good a weekend as any to check out some of the newest summer blockbusters in theaters!  There's a ton of great movies to see like Captain America: Civil War, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, The Angry Birds Movie and more!  Check your local listings to see what's playing near you so you can avoid getting some nasty sunburn.

    Floating Down the River

This is my all-time favorite thing to do in the summer.  My friends and I love to fill up our coolers and head down to beautiful Lanesboro and float down the Root River every year.  If you haven't done so yourself, you're seriously missing out!  There's plenty of awesome places to get hooked up with a kayak, canoe or tube to go floating.  The water might be a little cold yet this time of year, but if you're willing to tough that out in order to have some fun - DO IT.
