The storm that hit Minnesota yesterday is slowly winding down after dumping more than a foot of snow in central parts of the state.

The highest totals reported to the National Weather Service so far are in the Cambridge and St. Augusta areas - both at 16 ½ inches. St. Cloud set a record yesterday with 13.2 inches. Numerous cities had a foot of snow. The Twin Cities received 2 - 4 inches and only 1 - 2 inches fell across the Rochester area.

Roads are slick and the State Patrol and local public safety agencies have been busy the last 24 hours dealing with hundreds of traffic crashes and wipeouts. There were two traffic fatalities reported yesterday, one in Blue Earth County, the other in Carver County. Another fatal was reported in Rice County just before 6 this morning. Motorists are urged to take it easy as conditions may not improve until later in the day.

There will be fewer motorists on the road this morning as most government offices are closed for Veterans Day.
