So, I walked into the studio and Scotty Matthews asked me, "Dave, are you into comic books?"

Ten minutes later, me and Scotty realized that we'd been talking about X-Men, Spider-Man and Batman comics; the movies made from the comics and all the comic book shows on television and Netflix.

We're both binge-watching the new Marvel's Jessica Jones on Netflix.

Which brings me to another Top 5 Countdown. With this new Jessica Jones series, female heroes are starting to become a trend. But y'know what, there have always been women heroes. They're not hard to find.

    Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia

In the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Carrie Fisher's Leia is supposed to be dropping the "Princess" title. But, whether being interrogated by Darth Vader or held captive by Jabba the Hutt, Leia was pretty tough. It didn't matter if Greedo or Han shot first, Leia was the one with the best shot, usually putting Han in his place. Not only was Carrie Fisher tough in the original Star Wars trilogy, but she was pretty wicked in The Blues Brothers, too! I'm excited to see how Leia's grit has aged.

    Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman

Gal Gadot just shared the first image as Wonder Woman. She's set to debut next March in Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice, before going solo in her own film in 2017. Lynda Carter made her debut as Wonder Woman November 7th, 1975.  The show was only on ABC for one season before switching networks for a second and third season. She's pretty much typecast as the character. She played the no-nonsense Principal Powers in 2005's Sky High.

Wonder Woman's been around since the '40's, making her comic appearance nine months after Captain America.

The '70's were all about women heroes, like the Bionic Woman and Charlie's Angels.

Lucy Lawless as Xena: Warrior Princess

Xena: Warrior Princess starring Lucy Lawless was a spin-off of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys starring Kevin Sorbo. Lawless' Xena developed a cult following. Joss Whedon credits Xena for blazing a trail for other female action heroes like Jennifer Garner on Alias and Jessica Alba on Dark Angel, as well as...

Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy Summers, or Buffy The Vampire Slayer is another tough lady. Originally a light-hearted comedy film, the television series was more of a drama, with some light-hearted moments and even a musical episode. I was telling Scotty that I was more of a Star Trek guy than a Buffy guy. Now that I have a daughter, Buffy's in my Netflix queue...

    Melissa Benoist as Supergirl

I was telling Scotty that from what I've seen of the new Supergirl series, it has a really positive Christopher Reeve vibe going for it. The Man of Steel movie was really gritty and brooding more like a Batman movie than a Superman movie. My daughter, Bella, has got me watching shows like The Vampire Diaries along Agent Carter, Melissa Benoist as Supergirl and checking out Jessica Jones. I'm sure Krysten Ritter is going to be a hit on Netflix - just like Daredevil was. It's gonna be a bigger deal though for Supergirl to be a hit - an iconic comic book heroine on a major network known for shows like Murder, She Wrote? Oh, yeah.
