Dave’s Top 5: Jack Black Movies
Jack Black's new movie, 'Goosebumps,' based on the popular children's book series, is in its second week of release. So far, it's at the top of the Box Office, earning $23 Million Dollars. Have you seen it yet? Here are some other Jack Black Films you might want to check out:
The reason I have kids now is so that I have somebody to go with me when I want to see a movie like 'Goosebumps.' My wife is always trying to drag me to smarmy, kissy-kissy, smoochie drama, romance. I like movies with car chases and explosions - the more the better. Oh, and lots of punching.
I like comedies, too. Jack Black is one of my favorite comedy actors.

Okay, so the first movie is a smarmy, kissy-kissy, smoochie rom-com. And Jack Black isn't even the lead. Okay, and...so it only gets a 47% score at Rotten Tomatoes. 2006's The Holiday, features Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet as unlucky in love. Really unlucky in love. They switch houses for a holiday. Diaz breaks up with Ed Norton and ends up meeting Jude Law. Winslet is dumped by Rufus Sewell and ends up meeting a very mellow Jack Black. The movie also features a great performance by the late Eli Wallach.

A few years before The Holiday, Black cut loose as Barry, a record store clerk in High Fidelity, the film adaptation of Nick Hornby's 1995 British novel. He's part of an ensemble cast behind star John Cusack. After getting dumped by his latest girlfriend, Cusack tries to figure out where he keeps going wrong in relationships. Black is comic relief. Okay, so it's another rom-com, but it does get a 91% rating at Rotten Tomatoes.

A few years after both The Holiday and High Fidelity, Black played comedian Jeff Portney, along with comedian Ben Stiller and Robert Downey, Jr. in the action-comedy Tropic Thunder. Black is still comic relief in a movie full of wacky, outrageous laughs. Get this: he's comic relief in a movie where Robert Downey, Jr. has surgery to become a black man. Take as much time with that as you need...Tropic Thunder gets an 83% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

In the classic 2003 School of Rock, Black is Dewey Finn, a loveable loser who just happens to be the wrong person at the right time. He's rooming with a buddy who is a substitute teacher. He answers a fateful phone call, and hijinx ensue. He is hilarious, and so out of place. Black leads an honor roll cast including Joan Cusack, Sarah Silverman and Miranda Cosgrove. School of Rock gets a 92% score at Rotten Tomatoes.

My boys love Kung Fu Panda! Black is the unlikely Po, a panda that joins the Furious Five, led by Master Shifu. Black's Po is an awesome lesson that strength and self-esteem come from within. Po makes the very, extremely long journey to become the legendary Dragon Warrior. With an 87% Rotten Tomatoes score, Kung Fu Panda has another sequel coming in January and had a Nickelodeon series.
