A clothes dryer is being blamed for a fire that broke out Friday at a Rochester house located a few blocks west of St Mary’s.

The fire was reported around 4 p.m. at 1742 West Center Street.

Although the fire was confined to the dryer, the Fire Department says there was extensive smoke damage throughout the home.The preliminary damage estimate was put at $17,000.

The department says four people were in the house when the fire began and all got out safely.
