Authorities say a gunman opened fire outside of a Wisconsin high school around 11 p.m. Saturday night (April 23).

One person suffered critical injuries, two others were being treated for minor injuries.

NBC News spoke with Antigo Police Chief Eric Roller who said the gunman showed up with a rifle and started shooting outside the prom. "Officers were in the parking lot patrolling the activities and heard the shots," Roller said, "An officer immediately fired upon the shooter, stopping the threat."

The school immediately went in to lock down and students were held until it was safe for them to go home.

The shooter is in custody.
