The Rochester Public Utilities Board is scheduled to review the municipal utility’s proposed 2015 budget on Tuesday.

The board previously approved a 3.5-percent electric rate increase for next year, and the budget proposal includes a recommendation for a 3.5-percent in RPU’s water rates. RPU staff is indicating the Water Utility’s reserve fund is currently high enough that a rate increase would not be needed next year, but projections point to the need for additional revenues the following two years to maintain the required reserves.

Along with the rate hike for 2015, staff is recommending a water cost service study to be completed next year to determine potential rate increases for future years.
