Rochester police are investigating a break-in at a vacant school district facility that resulted in significant vandalism damage.

A spokesman says school officials told investigators the damage total at Gage East could exceed $50,000 dollars. The vandals broke out windows and damaged carpets and other flooring, along with gymnastics mats in the gymnasium, which is still used by the school district.

The break-in apparently occurred over the weekend. The alarm in the building went off early Saturday.
