From the smile on his face, you would NEVER guess the trauma he's endured.

Rescuers named this golden retriever Fergus, which means strength.  It's a perfectly fitting name for this dog who will need plenty of strength as he recovers from a heinous attack.  Some monster poured battery acid down the dog's back and left him to die in the desert.

Fergus was found wandering the streets in Lancaster with awful wounds and was brought to a local shelter.  He eventually made his way to an animal hospital in West Los Angeles thanks to a local rescue group.

The young dog is suffering from third degree burns and fighting off infection, but doctors say he hasn't stopped wagging his tail since he arrived!

Take a look at that smiling face!

Makes me sick to my stomach that there are people out there that would hurt such a kind and loving puppy like that.  So glad Fergus received the help he needed to survive!
