A nine-year old boy in St. Paul is making headlines around the world because of what he requested for his birthday.  Most kids his age ask for toys or video games.  This kid wanted to help some four-legged heroes.

The fourth grader, Ethan Flint, asked for money so that he could buy bulletproof vests for the St. Paul Police K9 Foundation. Ethan's mother, Jennifer Flint, told KSTP-TV he wanted "to do something that he was interested in and give to a cause that he believed in."

His birthday money totaled $1,290. He made a homemade check and recently presented it to the K9 Foundation.

St. Paul Police Department Spokesman Steve Linders spoke to ABC News and said ""This kid has a heart of gold." Linders continued by saying that Ethan's check will be combined with a gift from a restaurant to purchase two vests.
