The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Department says a man was escorted from Bonner Elementary School in Stewartville on Friday after he came to pick up a child while wearing a holstered gun.

The 29-year-old parent was spotted by a school bus driver, who contacted the school office and prompted the school principal to remove the man from the school grounds. A spokesman noted the man has a permit to carry a concealed weapon, but was was cited for violating a state law prohibiting the possession of any firearms on school property. The charge is a misdemeanor.

Last Thursday, a Stewartville High School student was arrested for bringing a handgun to school. He told investigators he had the gun with him at school so he could give it to another student.
