Parents were going CRAZY this Christmas trying to get their hands on one of these... But it turns out they aren't all they were cracked up to be!

This year I picked up a seasonal gig at the north Target here in town, and I got to see first hand how crazy consumers were getting to get their hands on one of these for their kids:

hours to hatch, if they even hatched at all. Plus, it's been said that the batteries don't last that long either.

The toy retails for about $50 but sold for upward of $250 on eBay prior to the holidays.

At my KROC Listener Lunch the other day, a parent said she'd bought her daughter a Hatchimal and was getting concerned on how long it took for it to hatch, but it eventually did. She did, however, mention that a friend of hers bought one for her kid, and it still hadn't hatched!  

Seems like a waste of money for an upgraded Furby that doesn't even work. But then again, I don't have kids old enough to want something like this yet so I'll just keep watching the chaos from afar :)
