When people think about wine they think of places like France or Napa Valley. Minnesota isn't the first place that typically comes to mind. There are several award winning wines produced right here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes though. Each year a trophy is awarded to the winery that produces the best wine in Minnesota. The trophy is known as the Minnesota Governor’s Cup, according to mngrapes.org,  and was won by Chankaska Creek Ranch & Winery of Kasota, MN for their single varietal 2015 La Crescent.

Here are some other Minnesota wines that were recognized during the 8th annual International Cold Climate Wine Competition:

Best of Show:

Red Wine - Winehaven - Chisago City, MN - 2014 Marquette

White Wine - Two Rivers – Ramsey, MN  - Frontenac Gris

My two favorite wineries were also recognized. Four Daughters Vineyard and Winery from Spring Valley was recognized for their 2014 Frontenac Gris and Cannon River Winery in Cannon Falls was honored for several of their wines.

The Go Go Red from Cannon River Winery is my favorite wine and one you should definitely try this weekend.
