Two Fatal Accidents on MN Lakes

ZIMMERMAN, Minn. (AP) — The body of an Albany man has been recovered from a Sherburne County lake, where authorities believe he drowned.

The St. Cloud Times reports 23-year-old Joshua Roepke had been swimming with friends Saturday on Lake Freemont in Zimmerman when his friends lost sight of him at about 6 p.m. and called authorities.

Divers recovered Roepke shortly after 8 p.m. in about 7 feet of water.

The Sherburne County Sheriff's Office is investigating.

ELY, Minn. (AP) — A 23-year-old Ely man has died after the boat he was riding in hit a rock on a northern Minnesota lake.

The Mesabi Daily News reports that Brice Dale Bundy died Friday after the crash on Lake Shagawa in St. Louis County.

The boat's driver and another passenger suffered injuries that were not life-threatening. They told authorities the boat was traveling fast when it hit a rock near Shipman Island. All three men were ejected from the boat.

The sheriff's department is investigating.
