Your Vote Will Help Local Athlete Fight on TV!
Former RCTC football player and current Med City Freeze player Dominique Young is taking on boxing! And he needs your vote to be able to fight in a televised CBS Sports event!
Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, Dominique came up to Rochester to attend RCTC and played for the Yellow Jackets in 2013 and 2014 and played for the Freeze this summer for their inaugural season. He recently just started boxing professionally, although he always grew up boxing as a kid.
"I just started boxing in a ring. Before that I was only doing backyard boxing as a kid and with friends and family growing up. I had a couple friends invite me to their fights, and I came from a boxing family. (He has two uncles who boxed in the Olympics!) So, they kind of influenced me - just knowing that it was in my blood. I thought it would come naturally to me, so I just thought 'why not'?" Young says.
Dominique made his debut not in a match, but in a tournament called "The Brawl for All" at the Winnavegas Casino in Sloan, Iowa "I had three fights in two nights and I went 3-and-0". Young won those bouts in the Heavyweight category. "I was in the heavyweight category but that's more of my football size to be honest. Due to my height, I'd probably like to lose about 20 pounds and go down a weight class," Young says.
If he wins, he'll be going back to the arena he is undefeated in. He doesn't know yet who he would be fighting, but it doesn't sound like that's a problem.
"I'm ready for anybody, I'm going to make everybody proud. I'm going to work hard, and if everybody votes and gets me in, I won't let them down. " says Young.
