The Best Minnesota Small Towns for a Getaway
Grand Marais
Grand Marais obviously made the list. An adorable small town right along Lake Superior? It doesn't get much better!
Stillwater
Stillwater is one of my favorite spots in Minnesota. Definitely a good spot for a little getaway.
Lanesboro
Lanesboro ALWAYS ends up on lists like these, and for good reason! There are tons of bed and breakfasts to pick from, too, if you want to spend the night.
Nisswa
Nisswa seems like the cabin capital of Minnesota. Or maybe the lake-getaway capital of Minnesota. Nisswa is home to the Grand View Lodge, which is known for being an amazing place to stay.
Park Rapids
Park Rapids is your classic small town, but it has one big thing that makes it a great spot for a getaway: it's close to Itasca State Park, aka the start of the Mississippi River! This is a great place to check out.
Ely
Being right by the Boundary Waters makes Ely a no-brainer for a great getaway spot in Minnesota.
Red Wing
Red Wing is another one of my favorite spots in Minnesota. Right along the Mississippi with an adorable downtown, you can't go wrong.
Detroit Lakes
If you want to go to a place that has water, water, and more water, Detroit Lakes is perfect for you! The small town is surrounded by lakes, perfect for a summer getaway.
Northfield
Northfield is a unique little town, kind of in the middle of nowhere. But once you get to the town, you'll be happy you made the trek!
Lutsen
Along Lake Superior is Lutsen, another picturesque Minnesota small town with stunning views. What more could you ask for?
New Ulm
New Ulm is your classic small Minnesota town meets German heritage. It's a cute place with a great state park. You can see everywhere just how much they lean into their German heritage, too. Make sure to check out August Schell's Brewing while you're there!
