Happy match day! Lots of people opened an envelope today to find out that their new home is Rochester. I've lived here my whole life, so I thought I'd prepare you for what to expect. The good, the bad, the ugly - here you go:

Brace yourself for our 2 seasons!

    Winter and construction season.

In all seriousness though, construction workers are working their butts off all summer to fix all the damage from the winter. Plus, Rochester is expected to double in size over the next 10 years, so there are houses and buildings shooting up everywhere.

I'm not going to sugar coat it for you. Winters are very cold with lots of snow, ice and wind. Invest in a good jacket and boots, and plan on wearing layers for months.

    Lots of mosquito repellent

It does get muggy here, and mosquitoes are thick in the summer. Mosquito repellent and citronella candles will help.

  • 3

    Buy a house!

Rent is sky high. If you can buy, do it!

    Be willing to explore

The whole state is beautiful! Head up north to see lakes, waterfalls and lighthouses galore. And come fall, prepare for the most gorgeous colors you've ever seen.

We are only an hour away from the Twins Cities. Make the trip, and visit Target Field, US Bank Stadium and the Sculpture Garden.

    Restaurants Galore

People will tell you that our restaurant scene is nothing to brag about, but I'm here to tell you that's not true. We have a ton of great options, in my opinion. Twigs, Chesters, Porch and Cellar, Pho Chau and Nupa are just some of the amazing places to check out.
