The 68th annual Eagles Cancer Telethon is this weekend in Rochester, Minnesota. It is the longest-running locally operated telethon in the entire country and raises hundreds of thousands of dollars each year for cancer research. In total, the event has raised more than 17-million.

If you aren’t familiar with the event, a ton of people from Rochester and neighboring communities come together to get on stage and show off their talent for the crowd at the Mayo Civic Center and the audience watching from home on KTTC.

I love this event because the performers aren’t generally professionals, they’re just everyday people like you and me, that want to make a difference and this event gives them a platform to show off their skills. And, there are some really talented people living in this area! You'll see dancers, singers, magicians, etc.

The entire 20-hour Eagles Cancer Telethon event is broadcast live on KTTC-TV. It starts on Saturday at 8:00 p.m. and goes until 4:00 p.m. Sunday. The public is invited to watch the event live at the Mayo Civic Center.

Did you know the telethon is actually a non-profit that operates year-round in Rochester?

According to its website, “The 5th District Eagles Cancer Telethon is a nonprofit charity based in Rochester, Minnesota, that operates year-round, culminating in a 20-hour live telethon each January. The money raised supports vital cancer research at three local institutions:

The Mayo Clinic Cancer Center

The Hormel Institute at the University of Minnesota

The Masonic Cancer Center at the University of Minnesota
