Apple Thinks You Need Help Washing Your Hands (You Probably Do)
A new update to the Apple smartwatch might help slow the spread of COVID-19 by helping people wash their hands. That might sound ridiculous, but you could probably use some help. A study conducted by the US Department of Agriculture and published on CNN shows that nearly everyone, 97% of people, is washing their hands incorrectly. The new watch feature is essentially a timer that makes sure you wash your hands for 20 seconds. Business Insider says the new update will also include a sleep tracking tool, and it will now track dancing as an exercise.
Four years ago, Jimmy Kimmel wanted to make sure he was washing his hands right, so he flew a Mayo doctor out to Los Angeles to teach him the proper way. Watch Dr. Polland's appearance below.
The CDC recommends following the 5 steps below to wash your hands the right way
- Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap, and apply soap.
- Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails.
- Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. Need a timer? Hum the “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to end twice.
- Rinse your hands well under clean, running water.
- Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry them.
