Minnesota Didn’t Even Make the Top 5 Best Camping States – I’m Personally Offended
I 100% feel like Minnesota got jipped here. A study about camping, and we aren't at least in the top 5? I understand not putting us at number one, since there's maybe a month or two out of the year when we have prime camping weather, but still.
This study was released by the website Lawn Love, and they ranked the 2025 Best States for Camping.

For the rankings, they looked at 5 different categories to decide where each state should rank. Those categories were:
Access to places to camp (how many camping places there are in the state, how many acres of state parks each state has, etc.)
The quality of the campsites in the state, according to Hipcamp ratings.
The number of camping supply stores and RV rental options.
Camping safety in each state (i.e. park deaths, natural hazards, and phone coverage)
How affordable it is to camp in each state.

The Best States to Go Camping
Since I already spoiled it and said Minnesota isn't in the top 5 for the best camping states, let's take a quick look at which states DID make the top 5.
5. Colorado (makes sense, I'll accept losing to Colorado)
4. Michigan (also makes sense)
3. Florida (huh?! I feel like the humidity and mosquitoes are way worse in Florida than Minnesota, what are you talking about?)
2. Texas (Again, huh?! Maybe I'm naive, but I feel like I don't hear about people in Texas camping quite as much or as religiously as we do in Minnesota)
1. California (Ok, fine, they do have tons of state and national parks. California is beautiful, too).
Is Minnesota a Good State to Go Camping?
You won't find Minnesota until you get down to the number 10 spot.
Number 10?! I'm offended. Yes, it's based on actual numbers, but STILL.
For access, we ranked 19th overall, quality we ranked 20th, supplies we ranked 5th, safety we ranked 15th, and affordability we ranked 21st.
I don't care what you say, Minnesota is an amazing state to camp in. The natural areas that we have access to here are unmatched, in my opinion.
