The Best Drinking Water in the US is Apparently From this Small MN Town
If it comes from the locals AND a friend of mine, it has to be true, right? There's a small town in northern Minnesota called Buhl. Most people from that area claim that Buhl has the best drinking water. Not just in the state, but in the entire country. Even their water tower says so!
I learned about this claim from a good friend last summer when my husband and I went up north to visit her. She told us that tons of people in the area swear by Buhl water. If I remember right, she may have even said that some people will drive to Buhl from other towns just to buy their bottled water.
It's been Buhl's claim to fame since the 1920s.

Why Does Buhl, MN Claim to Have the Best Water in the US?
From 1900-1914, Buhl was "plagued with water problems", as the Mesabi Tribune puts it. In 1914, a well was dug, and they found this high-quality water source. Apparently, it's the same well that Buhl still uses to this day.
In the 1920s, Buhl started advertising that they had this amazing water "to the tourists traveling up and down the highway", according to the Minnesota Rural Water Association. The town also approved adding the message 'Finest Water in America' to their water tower.

Is Buhl, MN's Water Actually That Special?
Now, that story is great and all, but anyone can slap anything on something, and people will believe it, so is Buhl's water actually that great?
It seems that, yes, it is!
The Minnesota Rural Water Association writes that Buhl's water is only treated with fluoride. Tests of the water have also found that "any of the human-caused federal Safe Drinking Water Act-regulated contaminants" are never found in the well where the water comes from.
If you're ever in the Buhl area, you may want to consider stopping by the Buhl Water Company and trying some of the town's bottled water for yourself!
