Winona, MN (KROC-AM News)- Update 7-6-22 12:18 p.m. The Buffalo County Sheriff's Office says the body found is a 61-year-old female. Her name is being withheld pending family notification.

Original Story: Investigators are working to identify a body that was found in the Mississippi River near Winona Tuesday afternoon.

Winona County Chief Sheriff’s Deputy Jeff Mueller said river goers spotted the body east of Winona near Mosquito Island. Mueller said members from the Winona County Dive and Rescue Team, Boat Patrol and Winona Fire Department recovered the body of an adult female.


Mueller says the body was sent in for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Muller says the body was found in the jurisdiction of the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office, which is leading the investigation.
