I'm not the smartest guy in the world, but I can tell you that hanging candles on your Christmas tree to light it up isn't a great idea. That's how it was done way back in the day and, yes, there were fires. A lot of fires.

Christmas lights didn't come along until the 1880s when Thomas Edison was looking for ways to promote his new light bulb. According to ChristmasHQ.com, one of Edison's employees suggested the lights would be a safer option to decorate trees and the rest is history. Today, a Burnsville, Minnesota couple is in the news because of their holiday lights.

Adam Duncan and Brandi Joy from Burnsville said they were crushed when they received a holiday card last Friday.

The holiday card read, "Your yard decorations (if you call it that) are very much an eyesore for the neighborhood. Please stop or at least tame it down."

Bring Me The News published the story along with a picture of the couple's holiday display. I think they did an amazing job with their decorations and, as a dad with two young kids that love going out to see everyone's lights, I applaud their holiday spirit.
