Can Adding Bacon to Chipotle’s Menu Make ‘Everything’ Better?
We'll find out sooner than later.
Baconoholics, rejoice! There's something new and exciting cooking up at Chipotle Mexican Grill as they're testing out a bacon-fortified menu. After testing Applewood Smoked Bacon in a trial run in New York City, they're adding bacon to the menu at eight restaurants next month in California – in advance of a possible full market launch.
According to Thrillist, customers at these test restaurants will be able to add bacon to burritos, tacos, food bowls and salads, with some even given the option to order a BLT quesadilla. Yum!
"Consumers have always said 'everything tastes better with bacon,' and that is exactly what we confirmed in our New York test kitchen," Chris Brandt, Chipotle's chief marketing officer, said in a statement. I couldn't agree more, Chris.
Along with trying out bacon, the company will expand its first-ever "build your own" nachos test run to all of its locations, including Minneapolis-St. Paul in October, according to a press release.
Of course, all of the bacon in the world might not even matter as the chain faces yet another major food-borne illness outbreak. Many fans of the burrito chain, including myself, have been weary of visiting the restaurant too often in fear our favorite location could be next.
Regardless, I've been keeping track of all these new menu items since February, and I can't say I won't be in there once Rochester gets things like avocado tostadas, nachos and Mexican chocolate shakes. So stay tuned!
