Carry Out An Act of Kindness…by Shoveling for a Neighbor
Family Services Neighbors Helping Neighbors needs your help. It has had a 30% increase in the number of snow removal requests this year from seniors and people with disabilities all over the city. NHN has been able to keep up so far because the snow has been light.
Dedicated volunteers continue to help during the winter season. Without fail, these volunteers come clear the snow for those in need. Every snow, they show up and remove it. Many of the staff at Family Services pitch in as well. But they will not be able to keep up.
That's where you come in (hopefully)!
The winter storm forecast has prompted more requests. The wet mixture will be heavy and that means the need for more help would make lighter work.
Come Monday, neighbors all over town will need your help. Come Monday, neighbors who have been helping neighbors will need your help.
Send an email now to volunteers@familyservicerochester.org.
Include your address. On Monday, you'll get a reply that will send you out into the city to someone who needs a hand. Maybe you can do it Monday evening. Maybe sometime Tuesday. Maybe after you've done your own house. Maybe before. Maybe when you get back you have a neighbor on your street who needs a hand. Head out on your own or take along your family, friends, or co-workers.
Sometimes the great work is a small chore. Maybe always. Monday, please pick up a shovel and be the change you wish to see in the world. - Dave Beal
