Rochester, MN Just Lost a Beloved Movie Theater Over the Weekend
Over the weekend, a movie theater in Rochester, MN showed their last movies and closed their doors for the last time on Sunday.
This leaves Rochester with only one 'regular-sized' movie theater and one small movie theater in town.

CMX Chateau Theater in Rochester, MN Closes its Doors
Sunday, July 27th was the last day of movies at the CMX Chateau Theater in Rochester.
The announcement came suddenly, on Friday afternoon, but it sounds like this was a decision that's been talked about for a little while. ABC 6 writes that "the company cited a change in the theater’s lease as the reason for closing."
The company had also just filed for bankruptcy a few weeks ago. It's the second time they've filed for bankruptcy in five years, so I would think that has something to do with the closure, too.

Movie-goers are bummed about the closure because it leaves only one large movie theater in town, and it's on the south side.
Now, Rochester isn't a massive place to drive through; it's not like you're suddenly needing to drive to the other end of the Twin Cities to go see a movie, but for those on the north side of town, the CMX closing is definitely unfortunate.
The Two Movie Theaters Left in Rochester, MN
The big movie theater that's left in Rochester now is Marcus Theaters, near Target South.
The other theater is a small, one-screen theater near downtown called Pop's Art Theater.
Marcus Theaters has lots of screens and gives you lots of movies to choose from. Pop's is a cheap movie night option (tickets are only $10), but they can only show one movie at a time.
I haven't seen anything about either of them closing, and I hope it stays that way!
