St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - Olmsted County has experienced another coronavirus related death and another local long-term care facility has been added to the list of those that have seen at least one case of the new viral illness involving the staff and or residents.

The Olmsted County resident who died was a woman in her 60s with multiple underlying health conditions who did not reside in a long-term care facility. She was among the 19 COVID-19 deaths reported today by the Minnesota Department of Health. It was the 13th coronavirus related death in Olmsted County, while the statewide death toll associated with the pandemic now stands at 1344.

The State Health Department also reported today that Edenbrook of Rochester is among the nursing homes and assisted living centers that have had at least one confirmed COVID-19 case among the staff or involving residents of the facility. There are now 9 Olmsted County facilities on the list.

Statewide, there were 387 new COVID-19 infections reported today, including 22 new cases in Olmsted County. Mower County, which reported 73 new cases yesterday, today reported only 11 new cases. In response to the surge reported Wednesday, the Minnesota Department of Health is organizing free community testing in the Austin area that will take place this weekend.

The daily update from state health officials continues to show a slow decline in hospitalizations due to the new coronavirus. Overall, 345 people are currently hospitalized due to COVID-19 and 171 are being treated in intensive care units. The overall number of people hospitalized is the lowest reported since April 29th, while the ICU bed usage is the lowest since May 4th.
