St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - Another Olmsted County resident has died from COVID-19.

The Minnesota Department of Health is reporting an 87-year-old Olmsted County resident was one of the five most recent victims of the coronavirus pandemic in Minnesota. There have now been 29 COVID-19 deaths statewide.

The number of people currently hospitalized because of COVID-19 in Minnesota has risen above 100 for the first time since the start of the pandemic.

The Minnesota Department of Health's daily update on the spread of the coronavirus infection shows 48 of the 106 people currently hospitalized are being treated in intensive care. Overall, 202 people in Minnesota have required hospitalization after becoming ill with COVID-19.

The health department today reported 56 new confirmed cases of the viral infection. The total number of confirmed cases statewide now stands at 935. 451 people who have tested positive for the coronavirus have recovered and no longer need to be isolated.

Olmsted County reported seven new cases today, raising the total for the county to 95. Every county in southeastern Minnesota now has at least one confirmed case of COVID-19. Houston County was added to the list today with its first confirmed case of the new illness.
