Where’s the Snow? Mapping Out December’s Snow Forecast in Minnesota

We have gotten a very small amount of snow this November, which is not normal for our neck of the woods. What does December look like for snow in Minnesota? Will it continue to be dry or will Mother Nature make up for what we've lacked this month?

As you may know, we're in a Super El Nino right now, which typically means a warmer than average and less precipitation than average in the winter for us. So far, that has been true this winter.

In November, according to Sven Sundgaard with Bring Me the News, we typically see 6.7 inches of snow in the Twin Cities, 13.6 inches in Duluth, 12.2 in International Falls, and 6.8 inches in the Fargo/Moorhead area. But this November, there has been 0.4 inches of snow in the Twin Cities, 0.8 in Duluth, 3 in International Falls, and 0.2 in Fago/Moorhead.

That's a LOT less snow than normal! So will December get us caught back up on snowfall?

According to Sven, it looks like December will be warmer than average plus we'll have below average snowfall still. He predicts that we definitely will get snow, but not as much as normal.

As for the Old Farmer's Almanac, they say that at the beginning of December, it will be relatively mild temperature-wise with some snow. Then later in December they predict it'll get colder with a little more snow.

Overall, it seems like this lower-than-average snowfall will continue in December. At least it will be accompanied by mild temperatures, that will feel pretty nice!
