FOX Picks Up New Medical Drama Set In Minnesota

Need your next great binge watch? This might be it. A new medical television show has officially been ordered at FOX for the 2023-2024 television season and the backdrop will be Minneapolis, Minnesota!

The show will be called Doc and it has already been ordered for a full season pickup, meaning we will be guaranteed an entire season if nothing else. There are a bunch of medical shows out there and many of them are really popular so this show has some good odds.

The show will take place at a fictional hospital - no Mayo Clinic here! The show isn't entirely new. There is already an Italian version that is so popular, it has spawned its own version in several different places, now including the US.

FOX released a description for the series earlier this year, and the synopsis for the show is as follows:

After a brain injury erases the last eight years of her life, Amy must navigate an unfamiliar world where she has no recollection of patients she’s treated, colleagues she’s crossed, the soulmate she divorced, the man she now loves and the tragedy that caused her to push everyone away. She can rely only on her estranged 17-year-old daughter, whom she remembers as a 9-year-old, and a handful of devoted friends, as she struggles to continue practicing medicine, despite having lost nearly a decade of knowledge and experience.

Sounds juicy! The show will put a big emphasis on storytelling and it will be interesting for a show to take place in a really cold climate for a change. It will be interesting to see how they play into that, if at all.

We will find out when it debuts a some point, likely next year. As of now, there doesn't seem to be an official cast announcement either, meaning we have no idea which major stars will be involved in the project.

In one of the earlier seasons of Grey's Anatomy, they sent one of the main characters to work at the Mayo Clinic and they definitely played into the whole Minnesota stereotype thing. I hope they don't go over the top with those stereotypes in this new show!

There have been other shows over the years that have mentioned Minnesota here or there, like fellow FOX show 9-1-1. Shows like Chicago Fire and Chicago PD have also mentioned Minnesota throughout their tenure but there hasn't been a major show set here that comes to mind.
