Duluth Welcomes Their First Cruise Ship in a Decade (WATCH)
For the first time in 10 years Duluth, Minnesota welcomed a cruise ship and its passengers to town on Monday, May 30th. This is one of many cruise ships that will be paying a visit to Duluth this summer.
This particular cruise ship was a 700-foot Viking Octantis, according to FOX 21, and holds about 400 passengers. The cruise ship's stop in Duluth was just for the day as part of a 15-day trip on the Great Lakes, according to Bring Me the News. When the ship arrived, passengers got onto smaller boats which took them to shore for them to explore Duluth for the day.
Throughout the rest of the summer, 8 other cruise ships will be stopping in Duluth for passengers to explore. FOX 21 says that ships will be able to stop for day trips every Monday.
Construction has been going on at the customs facility at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center in order to allow cruise ship passengers to visit. Once construction is totally complete next year, cruise ships will be able to board from Duluth, and not just stop for day trips. Tourists stopping for day trips will definitely bring money to the area but being able to have cruises board in Duluth will bring in even more money, which is great news for that area of Minnesota.
