St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - Governor Tim Walz today included a plan to bring students back into the classroom in his announcement concerning the modified extension of the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions he put in place last month.

Walz says the state has reached the point in its response to the pandemic that all Minnesota school districts will have the option of resuming classroom instruction at all elementary schools beginning January 18th. He says the resumption of in-person instruction will be accompanied by stepped-up testing to help keep teachers and other staff safe from the coronavirus. The governor says a plan envisions bringing older students back to their schools in phases at later dates.

The revised executive order issued today also allows youth sports to resume practice on January 4th.
