Governor Dayton Declares April 21 as Prince Day in Minnesota
On the one year anniversary of his death, the Purple One is receiving fanfare from Minnesota’s highest office.
This Friday, April 21, will officially be Prince Day in Minnesota.
That comes from a proclamation via Gov. Mark Dayton’s office, which Dayton says Prince "showcased Minnesota to the world" in which he also thanks the artist for making Minnesota his home.
The city of Minneapolis will be lit up in purple Thursday night and the state-owned Interstate 35W Bridge across the Mississippi River in downtown Minneapolis will also be shining bright purple on Thursday and Friday night, in recognition of Prince's passing.
First Avenue is also hosting a series of dance parties to commemorate Prince. Then of course there’s the four-day celebration at Prince’s home/studio Paisley Park, which includes guests and speakers.
Fans also have until today to pay their respects at the Prince4Ever Tribute Fence, plus the Minnesota History Center is inviting Prince fans to check out a display this week.
