Minnesota Bakery Owner Fires Back at ‘Obese’ Troll

In 2023, we asked our audience to recommend the best cafés and bakeries in southeast Minnesota, and one name came up again and again: Hanisch Bakery and Coffee Shop. Located in Red Wing, the bakery has a large and loyal following, and it's easy to see why.

Known for its friendly service and incredible donuts, Hanisch Bakery even won an online voting contest, earning the title of "Best Bakery and Donuts in MN" from the Minnesota's Best website. But today's story is about a Facebook troll's nasty comment and the owner’s epic response.

Minnesota's Best: Hanisch Bakery and Coffee

With over 49,000 likes, 52,000 followers, and more than 1,700 mostly glowing reviews on its Facebook page, it’s clear that the bakery has earned a strong reputation.

The nasty comment shown below is a perfect example of the ugly side of social media—an unnecessary jab designed solely to hurt someone's feelings.

Billy the Bunman, the bakery owner, saw the comment and posted a quick response and later reshared the insult with a lengthy response.

Billy openly admitted he was overweight, saying, “Am I fat? Probably considered obese, yep. I’m fully aware of that, thanks. Is it because I own a bakery? Well, considering I barely eat sweets, but I definitely enjoy food, probably not the only reason.”

Then he focused his B-D-E (big donut energy) right on Elizabeth, making it clear her words didn’t faze him.

"You see Elizabeth, if that even is your real name or a stripper name online. I don't give a shit what anyone thinks of me, never have, never will. Why? Because I'm confident in myself and where I am at in my life."

Billy has every reason to be confident, with a loyal fanbase that supports both him and his business.
