For every kid dreaming about how magical prom will be, there is a parent having a nightmare about how expensive it will be.
Families in Minnesota and across the Midwest are actually pretty thrifty. They spend an average of $515 on prom night and $218 on the “promposal.” That's a total of $733 and is much less than families from other regions of the U.S. spend.
According to a prom survey conducted by Visa: The Northeast took the spending crown. Northeastern families will spend an average of $738 on prom night and an average of $431 on the “promposal” for a total spend of $1,169. Families in the Western region of the country will spend an average of $596 on prom night and $342 on the “promposal” for a total spend of $937. And Southern families will spend an average of $544 on prom night and $305 on the “promposal” for a total spend of $859.
