Here’s When to Expect Your Tax Refund
Finding out your getting a tax refund is exciting, but waiting for that money can be excruciating.
The IRS doesn't want to drag their feet. They want to distribute refunds as quickly as they can. Their goal is to issue most refunds to taxpayers within 21 days -- if you filed your return electronically. If you mailed in your return, you will have to wait a little longer.
You can pinpoint exactly when your refund will come by using their new "Where's My Refund?" service. It can help you identify exactly when you will receive your money.
The IRS urges you to wait patiently. You should only contact them if it has been:
- 21 days or more since you filed electronically;
- More than 6 weeks since you mailed your paper return; or
- The Where’s My Refund? tool directs you to contact us.
