We had way too many fails when trying to take pictures of the blood moon. Don't waste your time trying to figure it out in the moment. Here are tips to get quality photos of this once in a lifetime event!

For the best quality pictures, use a real camera. But if you're planning to use your cell phone, here are tips from NASA to get better pictures:

  1. First, use a tripod to keep your phone stable.
  2. Use a solar filter. To take pictures during the eclipse, you need to cover your phone's lens with either a solar filter or your eclipse glasses.  Regular sunglasses will NOT work.
  3. Practice this weekend.  Practice by taking photos just after sunset to get an idea of what the light levels will be like during the eclipse.
