There is an incredible daycare shortage in Rochester and, really, all over Minnesota. The YMCA in Rochester knows this...so they're going to open a 150 child Early Childhood Learning Center! Here's what we know...

  • The Rochester Area Family Y is leasing what's been the Rosa Parks Charter High School, over on Valleyhigh Drive NW.
  • This will NOT change programs at the Rochester Area Family Y.
  • It's 12,000 square feet, so a big space that should really help make a significant impact.
  • It will run year-round, offer lots of options, and will open for kids as old as five years, down to wee little six-week-olds.
  • It's being modeled on the 10 already operating in the Twin Cities.
  • They hope to be open in early 2019!

Joan Schimml, the Senior Director of Communications and Marketing for the YMCA Rochester/Greater Twin Cities, "98 percent of graduating YMCA Preschool & Pre-K students surpass local school district Kindergarten readiness requirements."
