Working in a big retail store, we’ve all heard the tales of grandeur. Stacks of shiny quarters, endless discount merchandise, and the prestige of wearing that blue vest with pride. Yes, this is about a Northern Illinois Walmart.

But let me tell you, there’s one aspect of working at the big box store that is anything but glamorous - corralling those shopping carts from the parking lot during a snowstorm.

Imagine trudging through the slush and snow, trying to maneuver carts that are seemingly frozen in place. Your gloves are soggy, your toes are numb, and the wind is howling so loudly that you can barely hear your own thoughts. But you soldier on because that’s just part of the job. Or so you thought.

Cart Duty Sucks

The reality is that cart duty during a snowstorm is a thankless task. Customers complain about the dirty carts, your co-workers give you the side eye when you track snow onto the shiny floor, and management just expects it to be done without so much as a “good job.” It’s enough to make even the most dedicated Walmart associate question their life choices.

But there’s a glimmer of hope on the horizon! One brave Walmart employee in Northern Illinois, stepped up to the plate and volunteered to do cart duty during a particularly nasty snowstorm. They were out there for hours, battling the elements and gathering carts with a smile on their face. And how was this selfless act of heroism rewarded? With a measly TWIX bar.

I’m not kidding. It appears as though a single TWIX bar was all the appreciation this Walmart warrior received for their valiant efforts. At least, that's the perception based on what was shared on Reddit via One Walmart, the company's app for employees only.

Perhaps the best part of the story in the subReddit the screenshot was shared in, "Watch People Die Inside."

Remember To Say "Thank You"

Let this be a lesson to us all. Next time you’re doing your Saturday shopping take a moment to consider the sacrifices an employee may have made for the good of the team. And if you see someone doing cart duty during a snowstorm, offer them a warm smile and a pat on the back. And if you’re feeling extra generous, maybe even a TWIX bar.
