17 Displaced by Fire at Assisted Living Center in La Crescent
La Crescent, MN (KROC-AM News) - A fire at a memory care and assisted living center in southeastern Minnesota has displaced the 17 residents of the facility
The fire was reported around 3:30 Saturday afternoon in La Crescent. A news release issued by the La Crescent Fire Department says police officers in the Houston County community were the first to arrive at the scene and reported that an active fire was burning at the rear of the Traditions of La Crescent long-term care facility.
The news release also says staff from the facility was already escorting residents out of the building and were assisted by the police officer and a La Crescent firefighter who responded directly to the location.
La Crescent firefighters arrived approximately 20 minutes after the fire was first reported and found the flames had spread throughout the building. The news release says the fire remained active for another 2 1/2 hours before it was extinguished.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The La Crescent Fire Department reported receiving assistance from five area fire departments, the Houston County Sheriff's Office, and the State Patrol. The American Red Cross, the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of La Crescent, and Ready Bus Line also responded to assist the people displaced by the fire.
