Granite Falls, MN (KROC-AM News)- Authorities have launched an investigation following a body discovery in the Minnesota River.

Limited information has been released, however officials say a walker found the body on Tuesday. Law enforcement responded to the scene around 11:50 a.m. 

A news release posted on the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page said a man walking saw the body in the river in the small town of Granite Falls, which is about 30 miles northeast of Marshall.

The walker reported the body discovery near the intersection of highways 212 and 23. The preliminary investigation indicates the person’s death is not suspicious.

Detectives at this point have not uncovered evidence that suggests a danger to the public.

The person’s gender, approximate age and other descriptive details have not been released, however officials are asking anyone who may have information regarding the person and the circumstances that led to their death to contact the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office at 320-564-2129. 

Investigators have ordered an autopsy to determine the individuals identity and cause and manner of their death. 

Authorities plan to release more information upon completion of the preliminary autopsy, family notification and further investigation. 

The Granite Falls Police Department is leading the investigation and is being assisted by the Minnesota BCA and Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office.
