Burnsville, MN (KROC-AM News)- Multiple police officers and a paramedic were shot and killed in the Twin Cities Sunday morning.

Limited information is available, however preliminary information indicates the tragic incident occurred in Burnsville. Sen. Amy Klobuchar tweeted Sunday morning that she had been informed that three police officers were shot.

A statement issued Sunday morning by the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association says the two of the officers and the parametric died from their wounds. The statement, which is available below, indicates they were responding to the Burnsville residence on the report of a domestic abuse call for assistance.

(St. Paul, Minn.) – Two officers with the Burnsville Police Department and one first responder were shot and killed early Sunday morning while responding to a domestic abuse call for assistance.
Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association Executive Director Brian Peters said, “We are heartbroken. Our law enforcement community is heartbroken. We’re just devastated at the horrific loss. These heroes leave behind loved ones and a community who will forever remember their bravery and dedication to keeping Minnesotans safe.”
Law Enforcement Labor Services (LELS) Executive Director Jim Mortenson said, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the officers and first responder who responded to a domestic call this morning. These officers were struck down while answering the call of duty to serve and protect. We mourn alongside the Burnsville community and the families of those killed.” LELS represents the rank-and-file officers and the supervisors of the Burnsville Police Department.

Preliminary reports indicate the apparent fatal shooting stemmed from a hostage incident and standoff involving multiple children.

Gov. Tim Walz issued a statement on the tragedy Sunday morning calling it "horrific news," and saying "the entire state of Minnesota stands with Burnsville."

Tributes have begun pouring in from law enforcement agencies across southeast Minnesota and beyond.

Officials plan to release more information later Sunday morning.
