Update: Rochester Man Who Triggered Wabasha County Manhunt Has Been Captured
Elgin, MN (KROC-AM News) - Additional information has been released concerning the incident that led to a "shelter in place" order for an area near Elgin this morning.
Olmsted County Sheriff's Office Captain Tim Parkin says deputies were dispatched to an area west of Elgin around 7 a.m. to check on a suspicious vehicle. He says a caller reported seeing a person slumped over the steering wheel of the vehicle on the side of the road.

As deputies arrived at the scene near the junction of 105th Avenue and 65th Street Northeast, the person sped away. Captain Parkin says the suspect was not being pursued but was fleeing when the vehicle he was driving crashed into another vehicle on Wabasha County Road 25 near Elgin and he fled on foot. Parkin says the deputies involved in the incident then learned that the suspect’s vehicle had been reported stolen from another county.
The State Patrol identified the motorist who fled from the scene as 29-year-old Drew Douglas Wiskow Davis of Rochester. The preliminary crash report indicates he was driving a pickup west on Wabasha County Road 25 when it collided with a minivan headed in the opposite direction at about 7:30 AM. The driver of the minivan, 42-year-old Peterson Roy Peterson of Rochester, was transported to St. Marys Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
A short time later, authorities received a 911 call from a residence near the location of the traffic crash. Captain Parkin says the homeowner reported that someone had broken into their residence and then fled on foot to a nearby outbuilding before running into a cornfield.
That prompted the "shelter in place" order by the Wabasha County Sheriff's Office. Captain Parkin says deputies from the Olmsted and Wabasha County Sheriff's Offices, along with the State Patrol, established a perimeter and, with assistance from personnel with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, searched for the suspect. The search effort also utilized K9 units, drones, and Minnesota State Patrol aircraft.
