Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A man awaiting sentencing for his involvement in a 2023 shooting in Rochester has been sentenced in a separate criminal case.

30-year-old Alonzo Darnell Kelly was charged with second-degree assault, a gross misdemeanor count of obstructing legal process, and a misdemeanor assault charge following an incident at a local restaurant in March 2023. He ended up entering a guilty plea to a felony count of threats of violence in exchange for the dismissal of the other charges.

The criminal complaint filed in Olmsted County Court says Kelly was arrested after Rochester police were dispatched to the restaurant to check on a report about a belligerent customer. A female employee told the officers that a drive-thru customer had engaged her in a verbal altercation and then entered the business holding a baseball bat.

The charges alleged that he threatened the employee by saying, "you must really like your job. I see you walk in and out of your place every day. I'll be waiting for you when you get done with work and you'll get what is coming to you." The employee also told police that Kelly was holding the baseball bat in a menacing manner and she feared "imminent physical harm.

He has been sentenced to five years on probation and has been fined $500.

Kelly is also scheduled to be sentenced later this month for his conviction on a felony charge of reckless discharge of a firearm in connection with a shooting that occurred in September 2023 outside two apartment complexes in southeast Rochester. Court records show Kelly entered a guilty plea to the charge last month in exchange for the dismissal of a charge of illegal possession of a firearm.
