Pawned Ring Led to Arrest of Rochester Burglary Suspect
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Rochester police today reported the arrest of a man suspected of stealing a safe during a recent residential burglary.
The break-in occurred on the afternoon of December 4 at a home in the 2300 block of 15th Avenue Northwest. The occupant of the home told police they returned home that afternoon and discovered the front door had been forced open and a safe was missing.
A security camera at the residence recorded video of a man breaking into the house.
Around the same time the burglary was reported to police, officers were responding to a report about a man smashing a safe on the pavement outside a business located about a mile west of the crime scene. Police say the man left the broken-open safe at the site and drove away.
Investigators learned later in the daythat a ring taken from the safe had been sold to a local pawn shop and that led to the arrest of 51-year-old Joseph Daniel on Thursday. He was arraigned today on a second-degree burglary charge and was released without bail.
