Repeat Rochester “Porch Pirate” Sentenced to Jail

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A prolific Rochester "porch pirate" is being given another chance to stay out of prison.

Forty-nine-year-old Angela Mae Clemens was arrested about a year ago after an Olmsted County sheriff's deputy on patrol spotted her in a vehicle stopped next to a mailbox in Oronoco Township. The criminal complaint in the case states that the deputy knew of her prior mail theft convictions and that she did not live in that area, which eventually led to a search of her vehicle.

Stolen Mail Found From Multiple Rochester Households

The court document says the search led to the discovery of mail belonging to seven different households in Rochester. Clemens was then charged with seven counts of felony mail theft.

The Rochester woman entered into a plea agreement in January and admitted to two of the felony charges. She was sentenced this week to six months in jail and five years on probation. Olmsted County prosecutors had asked for an 18-month prison sentence.

Extensive Criminal History

Court records show that Clemens was convicted of felony mail theft in Olmsted County in 2022 and was sentenced to five years on probation with a stayed prison sentence. She also has mail theft convictions from 2020 and 2018, with her overall criminal history listing 10 previous theft-related convictions dating back to 2011.
